Not every client comes to us brand new to the world of boudoir. Some prioritize regular boudoir sessions and love trying out new photographers and styles. Occasionally, we’ll meet someone who didn’t have a great experience with their first boudoir and want a redo with the Belle Marie Team.
Recently, a client shared an experience where felt she had to change herself for a photoshoot. Natural spiral curls were straightened and lengthen with extensions, makeup was heavy, skin was tanned, outfits had to be clamped, and poses didn’t feel natural. She talked about feeling like the elaborate sets were the focus of the shoots and she just happened to be there.
By the time she finally saw the finished images, she didn’t see herself.
We’ll show you the best version of yourself
When you open your album or pull up the online gallery for the first time, we want you to be amazed at your photos, but also see yourself. You should be able to see what makes you, you. Maybe that’s your naturally curly hair, freckles, scars, a signature lipstick color, or your eclectic jewelry collection.
Our job as a boudoir studio isn’t to fit you into a mould, but learn about what makes you stand out and how to show that off in your photos. That takes time to carefully listen to you during consult call, thoroughly reviewing your pre-session questionnaire, and open communication during the entire photoshoot.
But there’s more to it!
Helping you feel like you also requires a massive investment in our style closet! That bad boy has been carefully curated over years and frequently audited to make sure we have a full range of sizes, styles, and colors for everyone from XS-5XL. Every piece is laundered after wear, even if it’s just briefly tried on, and we’re constantly adding new pieces to keep the styles fresh!
Sure, we could require clients to bring their own lingerie, but that’s an additional cost and stressor that not everyone wants to add to their planning process. Plus, after so many years, Olivia has learned what styles fit and flatter a range of body types and can make expert suggestions for what pieces to wear to make you feel confident.
Your hair and makeup are also an important part of process! Our Make Up Artist, MacKenzie, will talk about your preferences and vision for your look before getting started. She’ll also check in throughout the application to make any changes and ensure you’re completely happy with every part of the look.
Finally, we will never ask you to change yourself for your Boudoir photoshoot. We only have three requirements for you to follow before showing up to the studio.
Clean and dry hair.
Clean face, free of makeup.
No chipped nail polish (you don’t need polish, it’s just editing chipped nail color is a pain).
Beyond that, you can do as much or as little to prep for the photoshoot.
If getting long, colorful nail extensions makes you feel like you, go for it. Get those highlights or extensions if that’s what makes you feel confident. If you like a tan, go for it (just no spray tans, we have too many white couches). The important thing to remember is that you only need do the things that make you feel confident. Anything that doesn’t feel like you, don’t bother with it!
