Boudoir photography is an incredible experience, unlike any other type of photography. That means your preparation is going to look a little different than getting ready for family photos or an engagement shoot. So what do you need to know to make sure you get the most out of your boudoir photoshoot day?

There are many boudoir photographers out there, and picking the right boudoir studio can make or break your experience. With boudoir trending in recent years, there has been a rise in photographers adding boudoir to their service offerings without changing their process to fit the unique needs of a boudoir session. The Belle Marie team has specialized in boudoir photography for years, so we’ve created a step-by-step process to make sure every client feels fully prepared and confident going into their session.
While our team takes care of a lot of the heavy lifting by providing professional hair and makeup and access to our style closet, there are still a few things you can do to physically and mentally prepare. Let's review how you can prepare before you step into our Ramsey, Minnesota boudoir studio.
Consult Call - Plan Your Boudoir Photoshoot

The first step happens before you even book your boudoir photoshoot. Every client is required to get on the phone with one of our team members to go over the full boudoir experience and answer any questions. We know phone calls are not everyone’s favorite thing, but there’s a reason we require them before you put down a deposit or schedule your session.
A quick 20 minute consultation gives us time to talk through your vision and make sure we’re the right fit for your goals. It also gives us the chance to go over important details like scheduling, availability, when you can expect your photos, and pricing for session fees and packages. This way, you are fully informed before making any decisions.
We could do everything over text and email, but it’s too easy for misunderstanding or important information to be missed. Starting with a consultation call ensures we’re all on the same page and working towards a shared vision for your boudoir photoshoot!
Read Your Contract
How many times have you skimmed a contract and signed it without really reading it? We’re all guilty of it, but we have them for a reason, so…. Read your contract!

We keep ours short and simple at just three pages, but everything in it matters. It covers session details, payment options, rescheduling and cancellation policies, and how ordering and delivery works.
It might not be the most exciting part of preparing for your boudoir photoshoot, but it is one of the most important. If you only review one thing before your session, let it be the contract!
Financial Planning is Sexy!
Alright, I’m really bringing the excitement with this one. Nothing says fun like financial planning, am I right?!
After booking your boudoir photoshoot, we’ll send over information about our collections and payment options. Boudoir photography is an investment, so your first time reviewing pricing should not be the day of your session.
Waiting until the day of to figure out payments can lead to awkward situations where a client loves their photos and designs a beautiful album, but hasn’t planned how to pay for it. That can result in signing up for high-interest Buy Now Pay Later options just to get images right away.
We want you to avoid that. Payment planning should never be rushed. We’ll walk you through your options so you can confidently choose what works best for your budget.
Visit our Online Client Lounge
In the weeks leading up to your boudoir session, we send emails packed with tips and helpful information. To make things even easier, we’ve organized everything into one place inside our Client Lounge. It’s your go-to resource for everything you need before your boudoir photoshoot.
Inside, you’ll find your prep guide, lingerie guide, package information, mental prep tips, and even a travel guide for out-of-town clients. My top recommendation within the Client Lounge is the Stretch Guide! Don't underestimate the wonders a little stretching routine leading up to your boudoir will do to prepare you both physically and mentally for hitting and holding those poses.
Let's get to know YOU - Questionnaire
We’ll have plenty of time to get to know each other during your session, but we like to start that process early.
Before your photoshoot, you’ll fill out a questionnaire that helps us learn more about you. We ask about your goals, your personality, what you’re excited about, what makes you nervous, and what you envision for your boudoir photos.
This helps our team personalize your experience and make sure your session feels comfortable, supportive, and tailored to you.

You’re More Prepared Than You Think
By the time your boudoir photoshoot day arrives, you’re not walking in blind. You’re walking in prepared, supported, and ready to have an amazing experience.
From your consult call to your questionnaire, every step is designed to help you feel confident and excited. At Belle Marie Boudoir, we don’t just show up with a camera and hope for the best. We guide you through the entire process so you can relax, trust us, and truly enjoy your session.
Yes, there are a few less exciting steps along the way, but they are exactly what lead to those jaw-dropping, confidence-boosting photos at the end. If you’re feeling nervous, that’s completely normal. But you’re also more ready than you think. And we’ve got you every step of the way.
