Boudoir at Any Size: Celebrating Every Body in Our Studio

A few weeks ago,  I was sitting with a client during her Image Reveal. We were viewing her beautiful photos when she said something that really stuck with me. She explained that she wanted to give us permission to share her images because she wanted other plus-sized women to see themselves represented in boudoir.

She explained that she trusted our studio to do her boudoir photoshoot because she saw other women with bodies like her on our social and website. Real women, of all sizes and body types. It was important to her that other plus-sized women knew they could feel just as confident, sexy, and empowered as anyone else. That moment made me reflect on how often we hear the same worries from clients before their shoot.

So this week I want to focus a belief that is very important to all of us at Belle Marie Boudoir: boudoir is for every body. You don’t need to lose weight, hit a certain size, or wait for some “perfect” moment in the future. We want you to show up to the studio just as you are. Because we see your beauty and we want the chance to show it to you as well.

We’ve Worked With All Kinds of Women

Since opening Belle Marie Boudoir in 2021 we’ve photographed over 400 women. Only a handful have any experience modeling. The women you see in the photos we share are usually just regular women. Real women with real lives. Women who’ve had kids, gone through weight gain or loss, dealt with medical issues, surgeries, scars, and stretch marks.

You name it, we’ve seen it.

Every single session reminds us that beauty doesn’t come in just one shape or size. It comes from confidence, joy, and learning to love yourself exactly where you’re at. With the amount of experience we have helping women love their boudoir photoshoot, we’ve learned how to meet you where you are and how to work with you to give you the best time!

A Style Closet for Everyone

One of the biggest worries we hear from plus-sized clients is, “Will you have anything that fits me?”

The answer is that our style closet filled with so many styles and sized that we haven’t had anyone woman who didn’t find beautiful lingerie to rock during her session.

We maintain a well stocked closet with over 500 pieces of lingerie and accessories in sizes ranging to XS to 5XL. We have an especially large selection in the 2XL to 4XL range, and some of our favorite pieces ever fall in this size range. We’re always adding new styles, and we recently brought in some amazing pieces from Torrid that our clients are loving.

We also know that lingerie isn’t one-size-fits-all. Different cuts, fabrics, and fits feel better on different bodies. That’s why we’ll chat with you before your session about what makes you feel confident and comfortable. We’ll pull a variety of options and help you find the ones that fit and flatter best. Olivia knows our closet like the back of our hand so if you let her know your sizes, color and fit preferences, she’ll know exactly what to pull to make you feel amazing!

You’re also welcome to bring your own pieces, especially bras. We totally get that finding the perfect-fitting bra can be tricky, so if you have one you love, bring it along! We can mix and match with pieces from our closet and add in accessories for that extra glam.

Boudoir Posing Made Easy

When Olivia and I attended a photography conference in 2023 we were thrilled to see the so many workshops and classes for boudoir photographers. But we noticed something right away; almost all the boudoir posing workshops were using professional models. Working with models can be helpful when learning lighting and other photography techniques, but they’re not who we photograph everyday.

Most of our clients have never done anything like this before. They don’t know how to “pose,” they’re nervous, they’re not sure what to do when a camera is pointed at them. So how are you supposed to fill an hour-long shoot? An important part of boudoir is finding a photographer who can guide you through all the poses in a way that makes it feel easy and relaxed.

That’s why Olivia has spend so much time studying posing techniques, training with other photographers, and most importantly, working with hundreds of women. She’ll be giving you guidance and direction the entire time. You won’t have to worry about what to do with your hands, because she’ll tell you what to do with them. She’ll get into poses to show you and then give you step by step directions on how to get in a pose yourself. Our goal is always to make sure you feel comfortable, confident, and fully supported.

Just like with outfits, posing isn’t one-size-fits-all either. We always take into account your mobility, comfort level, and what areas of your body you want to highlight or not. I’ll help you find poses that flatter your shape, stretch your curves, and bring out that beautiful confidence that’s been there all along.
